Assistant professor at the Laboratoire de Physique de l’ENS in the “Astrophysics” team since 2022, Erwan Allys works at the development et at the applications, in astrophysics as well as in cosmology, of new statistical approaches from the data science. He was in particular the first to import in astrophysics the « Scattering Transforms », summary statistics which allow to characterize very efficiently, without learning step on prior dataset, the structure of complex images. In his team, he develops hybrid tools that bridge physics, applied mathematics and AI. By doing so, he has opened up a field of research that aims to model and separate the components of astrophysical observations, particularly in low-data regimes, in a variety of contexts, such as the study of the interstellar medium or the search for traces of the early universe.
